Moorcroft

Moorcroft Vase, Walter Moorcroft, Anemone Vase, 1950s

$1,650.00

A large vintage ceramic base bearing the hand drawn signature of Walter Moorcroft with the date “1951” and the official Moorcroft stamps: “MOORCROFT,” “POTTER TO HM THE QUEEN,” and a stamp of William Moorcroft’s signature.

This is a nice example of the beautiful work produced by the Moorcroft company under the direction of William's son, Walter Moorcroft, from the early 1950s. It features a bounty of colourful red tinged anemone flowers in full bloom against a green foliage. These images are detailed in delicate slip lines against a vibrant blue green background.

Having its beginnings in Stoke-on-Trent, England with William Moorcroft in 1897, Moorcroft pottery continues to be recognized as a reliable and respected collectible. This sturdy art pottery which began in the days of the waning art nouveau movement and the emerging art deco period with its gorgeous colours and intriguing designs continues to fascinate collectors from around the globe. Small editions and short open runs have and continue to ensure this pottery's place into the "desirable" category in the hearts of its collectors.

Queen Mary initially issued a Royal Warrant to William Moorcroft in 1928. The Royal Warrant was subsequently re-issued to Walter Moorcroft in 1946. The warrant allowed Moorcroft pottery to feature the stamp "POTTER TO HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN."
